Academic-Year Ambassadorial Scholarships provide funding for one academic year of study in another country. This US$27,000 award is intended to help cover round-trip transportation, tuition, fees, room and board expenses, and some educational supplies. Academic-Year Scholarships are the most common type of scholarship offered; about 700 were awarded for study in last Rotary year.

Mighty Ambassadors

Young men and women from around the world have an extraordinary opportunity of a lifetime. There have been nearly six decades of Rotary Foundation scholarships, through the world’s largest privately funded international scholarship program. Some 700 scholarships of various types will be available from Rotary clubs worldwide again this year for study abroad in one of the 154 countries and 35 geographical regions of the world with Rotary Clubs. During an academic year abroad (normally nine months), Ambassadorial Scholars act as “ambassadors of goodwill.” Through their daily contacts with individuals and appearances before groups, they represent their homelands and improve international understanding.

In District 5450 two scholarships are available for the 2012-2013 school-year at an institution assigned by the Rotary Foundations Trustees. The award will be $27,000 and funding is intended to cover the cost of round-trip transportation, required academic fees for a normal course load, some educational supplies, reasonable living expenses and limited contingency expenses. Applicants may not be Rotarians, or children or grandchildren of a Rotarian; must have completed al least three years of college or equivalency; and must be recommended by a District 5450 Rotary Club.
