Karen Sekich
MEET GOVERNOR
KAREN...
Karen is a native of
Colorado
and joined Longmont Twin Peaks Rotary soon
after women were invited to join Rotary
clubs.
She served in many positions of service in
her club and was President in 2000-2001.
Karen was a full time mom until her youngest
child went to school. She then started her
higher education and earned an AA, BS and
MBA over the next few years. She worked for
a PR Firm, ran her own collection Agency for
13 years, served as the Executive Director
of the National Bison Association before
joining the family farm and helping to start
and run Top Quality Turf for 15 years. Karen
retired in 2007.
In 1962 she married her high school
sweetheart, Nick. They have three grown
children and six grandchildren. Nick is a
Charter member of the Mead Rotary Club. They
have hosted several GSE team members and an
Exchange Student from Denmark.
Karen is a member of the Paul Harris Society
and the Bequest Society. Nick is a multiple
Paul Harris Fellow and a Bequest Society
member.
Karen has served District 5450 as a member
and Chair of the Membership/Extension
Committee. She has also served for three
years as the Assistant Governor of Area 8
where she experienced the start of three new
Rotary Clubs. She is the past Chair and
member of the
Nicaragua
initiative and worked with her club and
several others to start a school in
Nicaragua
and is currently helping with a
three-community water project in the same
area.
She is honored to have been a Senior
Counselor at Rocky Mountain RYLA. Karen
served as a facilitator at High Country PETS
and was a member of the Ambassadorial
Scholar selection, Interact and the Rotary
in Russia
committees. She received the Four Avenues of
Service Citation for Individual Rotarians,
the Rotary Foundation District Service Award
and Rotary International District 5450
Governor’s Discretionary Award 2006-2007.
Karen enjoys hiking, jeeping, reading and
she and Nick love to travel and spend time
with their family.
