Zone 21b-27 Institute a HUGE Success!

What does one do when it seems a simple THANK YOU will be totally inadequate for the occasion. This is the position in which I find myself as I look back on the events of the week of September 8 through 14, 2014. We were the hosts for the Zone 21b-27 Institute convened by our very own RI Director Greg Podd and Pam. This was an event to remember and the compliments I have received from a huge number of attendees from all over our two Zones makes me proud to be the District Governor of District 5450.

We began planning for this event about a year ago with the first meeting of the host committee lead by PDG Mike Klingbiel.  Subcommittee chairs for transportation to and from the airport, greeting at the airport and hotel, Sargeant at arms, hospitality suites for all attendees, the bonding dinners for DGN and DGE classes, Reunion dinners for DG and PDG classes, the local entertainment, presentation of the DG dinner, the moving opening Flag ceremony especially guaranteeing the horses wouldn’t soil the carpet, the interact leadership conference, and the polio fund-raising race, and all the local events on Saturday afternoon from sky diving to fly fishing and beer tours went off with no apparent hitches. I am so very proud of everyone involved, too many to list individually but you all know who you are.

There were some indelible images that remain. The Taiwanese flag carried high and proudly by our Taiwanese Exchange student, the inspiring speech of our Young RYLA student ZoE  Sunday morning, the packed house All club luncheon with 470 Rotarians from our district in attendance, the quality of the speakers, the long ride on the bull of Pam Podd who soundly defeated her husband Greg who hit the dust in under 2 seconds, the image of RI president Gary Huang under a huge ten gallon hat perched clingingly to the same bull, and finally the monies raised for Polio eradication to get Sean Allen to jump out of a plane and from our first annual Polio Plus race totaled, with the Gates Foundation match, more than 80 thousand dollars.

An event to remember for a long time, a job WELL DONE!
THANK YOU to everyone!
