R.O.T.A.R.Y. From My Point of View
By Mary Jean Ewing, Rotary Partner and Spouse of DG Peter Ewing, maryjeanewing@gmail.com

R – As Peter’s partner, many have already asked me how I am finding my new role.  While I am still getting used to this role, I have taken the Polio campaign as my special focus for the coming year.  My mother had polio.  This cause is important to me - even more so, to the entire world.  We are so very close!!

O – I have always viewed Rotary as a wonderful opportunity for Peter to learn and strengthen his many capacities.  I now find it an opportunity for me to meet many new friends, to travel and experience new horizons together and to learn about all the wonderful projects of Rotarians – a tribute to diversity and the human spirit

T – True, our time is taken with a multitude of tasks, but how fulfilling it is to fill ones time with meaningful activity.

A – I am adjusting to the breadth of acceptance and support that exists among Rotarians.  It is humbling and uplifting to realize the extent to which Rotarians stand ready to help one another and make a difference in their communities, their country and the world.

R - Our new reality is a challenge for us both.  Mine is to focus on the needs of my family, and the community of Rotary.  Not a bad place to be, I am finding!

Y – It will be interesting to investigate a yearning that is developing for me.  A desire to extend the hand of friendship to many new people, the hope to have enough time to make a difference, a wish to slow down to properly digest all the experiences which come my way, and the realization that this year will pass by all too quickly.

So far, a good journey!  Here’s to great beginnings!
