EREY is not just a phrase - it is a commitment.

Annually Rotarians choose to support The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International.

When you give to the Foundation, you do so with the knowledge that no other organization leverages your contribution like Rotary. Money is doubled by pairings with other Clubs and Districts, and leveraged again by Rotary International.

In three years, a portion of your money comes back to your club once again to be doubled or tripled and used locally or internationally through district and global grants.

The recent Ebola outbreak in western Africa was slowed in its tracks in Liberia where Rotary, the CDC and UNESCO have a network of polio eradication health care workers, informed and equipped to fight disease.

I was in Kano, Nigeria, in 2005. Looking out the window of a bus filled with Rotarians; I saw a child:

“My name is no one, I live by the side of the road.  I make my living on the streets of Kano.  Its 100 degrees today and I have twelve liters of petrol on my cart to sell before I return to my hungry family members. They depend on me. Every day I hope to survive one more day. At least, I don’t have polio and the life of a cripple begging on the street.”

I saw the strain on this man-child’s face as he dragged his cart, dodging cars in jammed streets, approaching frustrated drivers asking them to buy his petrol.

That is when I decided to become a part of Rotary. There has to be some kind of hope and Rotary is giving that to the child in the street and to me. Every Rotarian Every Year.  Every gift matters. What was your Rotary moment? Learn more or contribute at www.rotary.org/contribute.
