Conference Speakers Have SO Much to Share!

The presenters at this year’s District Conference will educate you, puzzle you, challenge you, motivate you, entertain you, and make you proud to be a Rotarian.  The 2014 District Conference is shaping up to be an event you do not want to miss.

The theme addresses what Rotarians want to do as Rotarians – Delivering Effective Humanitarian Services.  On May 2-3 District 5450 Rotarians will be entertained and enlightened with incredible speakers, panels and entertainers.  We will explore what works and what does not work in developing international and local projects.  We will find that the best of intentions sometimes does more harm than good.

Following are just two of the incredible speakers you will hear at our District Conference:

Dr. Robert Lupton - humanitarian, entrepreneur, urban activist, minister and author of Toxic Charity.

Dr. Robert Lupton will give us examples locally and internationally of how sometimes the best of intentions does more harm than good.  Dr. Lupton reveals the disturbing truth about charity:  all too much has become toxic and devastating to the very people it’s meant to help.  He provides a fresh look at the money and effort Americans have generously given to help the poor within and outside the United States. He has concluded that many times such charitable efforts have been wasted, have hampered developing economies and destroyed human dignity.
John Hewko - General Secretary of Rotary International and The Rotary Foundation.

We have asked Mr. Hewko not to talk about Rotary as he normally would, but to talk about how Rotary can more effectively deliver its humanitarian services – in other words how can we do local and international projects more effectively and efficiently.  Mr. Hewko will draw on his years of extensive experience delivering development aid outside the United States prior to becoming the General Secretary of Rotary.  District 5450 Rotarians will have a rare glimpse of the outstanding leader Rotary has in Mr. Hewko.
