Denver Southeast Rotary Salutes Veterans

Denver Southeast Rotary Club is planning their 8th consecutive Veterans’ Appreciation Event at the Wings over the Rockies Air and Space Museum, in conjunction with Colorado’s Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve. This year’s event will include not only a free breakfast for the first 1000 veterans and their families registered and a speaker program, but also a “success” fair where over 60 veteran support organizations will be represented.

The event will take place on Saturday, May 24, 2014, from 8:00am to 1:00pm.

Honorary co-chairs of the event are Senators Hank Brown and Mark Udall.  The keynote speaker for the program will be Major General Jay Lindell, Silver Star recipient and Aerospace Defense Champion, Colorado Office of Economic Development, F16 pilot, and U.S. Air Force Academy graduate.

“In the past, we just had the free breakfast and an inspiring speaker to honor our veterans,” said Bill Palmer, retired Navy captain and chair of the event. “My committee of over 18 Rotarians decided that we wanted to do more by offering support services to those veterans who are seeking new careers after their military service.  As a result, we have both government (e.g., Veterans Administration agencies, Colorado Dept of Labor, etc.) and non-government agencies (e.g., Project Healing Waters, Project Sanctuary, Phoenix Multi-Sport, Freedom Service Dogs, etc.) eager to participate.”

Veterans and their families can register for the event at www.successforveterans.org  and the first 1000 veterans and their families will have free admittance.  Anyone wishing to make a tax-deductible donation for the event may also do so at this same website by clicking on the “donate” link on the same website. Any surplus funds donated will be used for future events for veterans.
